When a customer replaces the private side lead service line, the public side of the lead service line will be replaced at no cost to the homeowner.

A water service line is a small, buried pipe that brings water from water mains in the streets into homes and other buildings. If any part of the line is lead, it can release lead into your drinking water. Providence Water wants to replace all lead service lines in the communities we serve to decrease lead in drinking water.

Accelerated Lead Service Line Replacement Program

Providence Water is using federal and state funding to replace lead service lines for free. Check our Lead Service Location Map to learn if your property has a lead or unknown (may be lead) service line.

Property owners are encouraged to sign up HERE for a lead service line replacement. Property owners are required to fill out a Right of Entry form allowing Providence Water contractors access to your home to complete the customer-side lead service replacement.

After signing up, property owners will be notified if their property is in a planned construction contract. Construction contracts can be several months to years long. If your location is not currently in a planned contract, it may be included in a future contract, as funding allows.

Providence Water aims to replace all lead service lines in our service area by 2033, in accordance with RI legislation. Providence Water will replace as many lead service lines for free as funding allows.

0% Interest 10-Year Loan

If your property is not in a planned construction contract under the Accelerated Lead Service Line Replacement Program, Providence Water also offers a 10-year 0% interest loan to property owners to assist with the replacement of their private-side lead service lines. When a property owner replaces the private part of the lead service line, Providence Water will replace the public part of the lead service line at no cost to the property owner.
