Current Water Rates
Providence Water measures consumption in hundred cubic feet (HCF). The water consumption unit HCF is equal to approximately 748 gallons. Below are the current rates-volume charges.
Residential rate: $3.993 per HCF
Commercial rate: $4.154 per HCF
Industrial rate: $3.834 per HCF
Examples:
- If a residential customer uses 25 HCF in a billing month, the water charge will be $99.83 (25 X 3.993)
- If a commercial customer uses 1100 HCF in a billing month, the water charge will be $4,569.40 (1100 X 4.154)
A typical residential yearly water bill, based on 100 HCF per year, will total $570.18.

STATE SURCHARGES: 100 HCF @ $0.21842 per HCF = $21.84 (100 x 0.21842)
MONTHLY SERVICE CHARGE: 5/8" METER @ $12.42 per month x 12 = $149.04 (12 X $12.42)
FIRE PROTECTION SERVICE CHARGE (applies only to City of Providence residents): 5/8" meter @ $4.14 per month x 12 = $49.68 (12 x $4.14)
East Smithfield Water District Debt Service Charge (Per HCF): $0.35
Town of Johnston Water District Annexation Fee (Per HCF): $0.34
